Volleyball queen Janet Wanja's burial plans

The funeral arrangements for fallen volleyball queen Janet Wanja have been released even as the country continues to come to terms with her departure.

The Kenyan sporting legend will be buried on Friday 3,January 2025 but before then, a lot of programs are lined up in her honour.

News of Wanja’s death sent shockwaves in the country after his brother Kevin Kimani,who is a midfielder at Mathare United ,announced her departure on Thursday 27, December 2024.

“The family of Janet Wanja would like to announce her passing on after a brave battle with gallbladder cancer.

Our sincere and deepest gratitude goes out to Kenya Pipeline Company for walking the journey with us from the beginning, and tirelessly providing all she needed in terms of medical support,” posted Kimani in his social media pages.

In a program that is in possession of Mozzart Sport, notably, the journey will start with a 7-aside football tournament at Kahawa Wendani Astro turf on Tuesday 31,December from 0800 hrs to 1800 hrs.

Participating teams will pay Ksh 3,000 for registration.

On the same day, the funeral committee will once again meet at Sportview Hotel from 1600 hrs.

The last activity of the day will be a candle-lighting ceremony at Wanja’s residence in Vikam B Center, Clay City, Kasarani as from 1900 hrs.

On Wednesday 1,January 2025, the funeral committee will continue with their meeting at Sportsview Hotel from 1600 hrs.

There will be a requiem mass that will be open to the public on Thursday 2 January 2025 at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani Indoor Arena from 1000 hrs to 1400 hrs.

Afterwards her body will be returned to Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home for an overnight stay.

The legendary setter will then be laid to rest on Friday 3, January 2025 at Lang'ata Cemetery in Nairobi in a private ceremony which will only be attended by the family, close friends and dignitaries as is the wish of the family.
